Jessica advises and litigates in the broad field of insurance and liability law. Her clients are primarily national and international insurers and corporations. Her interests include complex insurance issues affecting major corporate markets. In her work as a lawyer, she enjoys immersing herself in cases, exploring and resolving challenging problems and situations in a creative but practical manner.
Alongside her work at Ekelmans Advocaten, Jessica works as lecturer of the Insurance Law Course at the University of Amsterdam, as researcher at ACIS (Amsterdam Centre for Insurance Studies) and she publishes on a regular basis.
Background
Jessica graduated from the University of Amsterdam in 2022 with her doctoral thesis on ‘enkele bijzondere, juridische aspecten van coassurantie’ [some specific, legal aspects of coinsurance]. She also wrote a chapter on this subject in the Dutch Insurance Law Handbook published by Wolters Kluwer.
Before becoming a lawyer, she worked in the insurance industry as an underwriter for niche insurer Hiscox and as a legal assistant at a law firm.
Education
Jessica studied Dutch law at the University of Amsterdam, focusing on general private law. She also successfully completed both her Master’s in Communication Studies and her Master’s in Policy, Communication and Organization at VU University Amsterdam.
